The Trailblazer’s men’s basketball team defeated St. Louis Community College in its first game of the 2015-2016 season. The final score was 65-53.
Alton High School grad Mike Williams-Bey led the team in scoring with 22 points (6-two point fg's, 10-11 ft's)
“Williams-Bey also played good defense in the second half,” said Head Coach Doug Stotler. “He was very impressive in his first game since his high school days at Alton.”
Sophomore Joan Povea from Miami, Florida added 13 points and freshman guard William Sides from Indianapolis, Indiana scored 12.
“In the first half, St. Louis shot very well (65 percent from 2 pt ft's and 54 percent from 3's),” Stotler said. “We had a hard time defending them.In the second half, we defended their guards’ outside game and our defensive rebounding greatly improved from the first half. I was very pleased with the second half defensive effort. Limiting St. Louis to only 15 second half points was very important to the victory.”
The men’s next home game is 7 p.m., Tuesday, Nov. 3 vs. Mineral Area College, which is ranked in the top 20 pre-season NJCAA National Poll.
