Idle L&C Teams Stand Pat in National Polls

GODFREY — It was status quo for the Lewis and Clark Community College men’s and women’s soccer teams when this week’s NJCAA national rankings were released Tuesday afternoon. The L&C men remained at No. 7 in their poll, while the L&C women stayed unbeaten at No. 6 in their poll.

Neither L&C team played last week. A men’s/women’s doubleheader that was scheduled for Oct. 10 was cancelled because of wet fields. Officials are working on a make-up date.

The St. Charles date was to be the L&C women’s team’s regular-season finale. The L&C men were scheduled to play at home Tuesday in Godfrey against the Culver-Stockton College junior varsity.

The L&C women are 14-0, while the men were 11-1-1 heading into Tuesday’s game.

Georgia Military (10-1-1) is the top-ranked NJCAA Division I men’s team, followed by Marshalltown, Iowa; Pima, Arizona; Barton, Kansas; Northeast Texas; Tyler, Texas; L&C; Phoenix, Arizona; Cowley, Kansas and Iowa Lakes CC, rounding out the top 10.

Parkland CC of Champaign is ranked 176th in the men’s poll. . Illinois Central CC, Jefferson, Missouri CC and St. Louis CC were listed among men’s team’s receiving votes.

In the women’s poll, Navarro, Texas (11-0-1) is ranked No.1, with Arizona Western (17-0) No. 2. Tyler, Texas is No. 3 in the women’s poll, followed by Monroe College (New York); Iowa Western; L&C; Snow CC, Utah; Phoenix, Arizona; Eastern Florida State and Dayton (Florid) State rounding out the top 10.

No other area women’s teams were ranked or received votes.

Both L&C teams won its respective regular-season Region 24 title and home-field advantage throughout the postseason. Both teams could play at home through their Region 24 Tournament games, as well as their respective Central District Tournament, set to be played at the home field of the Region 24 tourney champions in men’s and women’s action.
