Blazers’ season ends after 1-2 day at region tourney

NORMAL — Lewis and Clark Community College’s roller-coaster softball season came to an end on a day which was a microcosm of the Trailblazers’ season that saw them take the field for three games.

The bad news was that L&C went 1-2 Friday at the NJCAA Region 24 Tournament at Champion Field and saw its season shuttered at 16-32.

“We couldn’t get any consistency going,” L&C coach Ronda Roberts said. “There were times we played really well, but we made too many mistakes - mistakes we normally don’t make.”

L&C won a morning play-in game over Lincoln Land 3-0, but was shellacked by Illinois Central College 18-4 in Game 2.

Facing elimination in their third game, the Trailblazers dropped a 5-1 decision to Danville Area College.

“It’s sad to see it all end,” Roberts said. “It was that kind of season. we had high hopes and when we played up to our potential, we looked really good at times. But just not enough consistency.”
