The Lewis and Clark volleyball has announced the 2015 recruiting class of incoming players.
“This is a big class,” said head coach Jim Hunstein. “We needed to get better and deeper at every position, and these women will help tremendously.”
“I had a chance to watch them all play for their respective high school and/or club teams, and they were all very impressive. Then I got to see them play together over the summer at open gyms and they all seemed to have a great time together and really elevated the game.”
Cassie Allen, of Edwardsville, is a middle hitter from Edwardsville High school. She last played club volleyball for H2 Saint Louis 18 Cardinal, which finished 8th in the USAV Gateway Region out of 18 teams. She plans to take her general studies here and then transfer to a 4-year university to study speech pathology and to eventually work with children in that capacity.
Becca Bowlin of Peoria, Illinois is another middle hitter. Bowlin attended Dunlap High School near Peoria. She earned varsity letters her junior and senior year when she led the Dunlap Eagles in blocks. She was named All-Conference Second Team in 2014 and earned the school’s Outstanding Athlete Award. She played club volleyball for Illini Elite.
Lauren Cook is an outside/right side hitter from Edwardsville. She missed the tail end of her senior year there with a knee injury and had to miss this past club season. Both her parents attended LC and her mother, Tracy, played volleyball here from 1978-1980. Her sister played golf at University of Missouri. Lauren plans to study business.
Bailee Cope is a right side hitter from Marble Hill, Missouri and attended Leopold High School where she played varsity all four years and led the team to state finals in 2013. She has been named All District, All Conference, All Region, and All State Honorable Mention. She played club volleyball for NSSC 181 in southeast Missouri and her team finished 11th at Nationals and 5th in the USAV Gateway Region this past season. Bailee plans to study biology and eventually become a doctor.
Gabby Ferrante is a defensive specialist from Moscow Mills, Missouri and attended Timberland High School in Wentzville, Missouri where she is a three-letter winner in volleyball. Gabby played club volleyball for St. Charles Elite. She plans to study nursing and eventually work in a hospital as a trauma nurse.
Brooke Hustedde is an outside hitter from Trenton, Illinois and attended Highland High School where she played volleyball for four years and was a member of the Nationals Honors Society. She played club volleyball last season for TESL 18 Red, which finished 6th in the USAV Gateway Region. Her cousin Ashleigh Holtgrave played at L&C in 2012 and 2013. Brooke plans to study nursing.
Bailey McGuire is a right side hitter from East Alton, Illinois. She attended Roxana High School where she also played middle and outside hitter. She was a varsity starter all four years at Roxana and holds several school records, including kills, aces, digs, and service points. She also holds season records for the Shells in kills and aces. She recently played for club team, Show Me Rox 18, which finished 9th in the USAV Gateway Region. Bailey survived a car accident shortly after her junior season and, after spending nearly a month and a half in the hospital with a traumatic brain injury, has been coming back stronger and stronger. She is undecided about a major but plans to continue her volleyball career after L&C.
Ashlyn Ringhausen is a setter from Medora, Illinois and attended Southwestern High School where she was a member of the National Honors Society for three years. She was named All Conference her junior and senior year. She was also All Conference in softball her sophomore and junior year. Ashlyn plans to study nursing and eventually become a pediatric nurse practitioner.
Molly Stumpf is an outside hitter from Alhambra, Illinois. She attended Highland High School. She missed her entire senior season due to a knee injury at the end of the 2014 club season. She earned varsity letters her sophomore and junior seasons and was named First Team All Conference as a junior when she led the team in aces, digs, and points. She played club volleyball last season for RC Flyers. Moly plans to study exercise science.
Denae White is an outside/middle hitter from New Athens, Illinois where she attended high school and was a 4-year varsity starter. She led the Yellow Jackets to fourth at state in 2013. Denae was also a 4-letter winner in basketball and softball and was named a St. Louis Post-Dispatch Player of the Week for basketball. She was a member of the National Honor Society and her academic goal is to study radiology.
The incoming freshmen join returning sophomore setters Lauren Chiarelli of Collinsville and Kennedy Netters of Dunlap, Illinois, outside hitter Emma Chiodini of St. Louis, right side hitter Macy Thurston of Jerseyville, libero Drew Myers of Lesterville, Missouri, and defensive specialist Meg Sitzes of Cisne, Illinois.
