L&C Women Open Playoffs Against ICC

GODFREY — Coach Jaron Young’s Lewis and Clark Community College women’s basketball team has put a pair of winning streaks this season.

He’s hoping for a third that could take his Trailblazers deep into the postseason.

The fourth-seeded Trailblazers will face No. 5 Illinois Central College (23-7) in a quarterfinal-round game at 2 p.m. Thursday at the NJCAA Division II Region 24 Tournament at Lincoln Land Community College in Springfield.

The tourney is set to run through Sunday, with the winner advancing to the 16-team NJCAA Division II National Tournament March 20-24 at North Arkansas College in Harrison, Arkansas.

L&C (18-15) romped over the Cougars 68-46 earlier this season, but Young has preached to his team the evils of overlooking teams in the playoffs. But he knows the Trailblazers players are well aware.

“It’s a No. 4 seed against a No. 5 game,” Young said. “It could be a good one.”

The winner of the L&C-Illinois Central game will advance to a Saturday 2 p.m. semifinal against a quarterfinal between No. 8 seed Danville and No. 1 Parkland.
