The women’s tennis team finished the season ranked 22nd in the country after their final match of the NJCAA National Championships in Tucson, Arizona.

The Trailblazers had three entries still in play in day four at Nationals, all in the quarterfinals of the consolation round. Nikki Steiner won her match 8-4 to advance to the semi-finals of #4 singles. #6 single Alex Dennis lost her match 5-8 and #1 doubles Mel Schlaeger and Claire Morrissey lost their match 3-8.

On day 4, Steiner won her semifinals match 8-4 but then lost in the finals 2-8.

“All the women played pretty well this week,” said head coach Jim Hunstein. “And I’m proud of how hard they not only worked, but supported each other all the way.  We finished 22nd overall, pending a few more matches still to be played.  It would have been nice to finish a little higher, but all in all, it’s been a good tournament and a good finish to the season.”

#4S Consolation Quarterfinals: Nikki Steiner (LC) defeated Gabriela Trujillo (Sauk Valley [Illinois] CC); 8-4
