GODFREY - The women’s tennis team won its first NJCAA Region 24 match of the season with a 5-4 defeat of Rend Lake on March 19 at the Andy Simpson Tennis Complex.
The Trailblazers won at the first through fourth singles and at second doubles.
The match was even at 4-4, when Luisa Gonzalez was tied at 5-5 in the second set of her match at first singles. Sensing the importance of the moment, she broke her opponent and won her serve handily to give Lewis & Clark the match.
The Trailblazers are now 2-3 on the season and 1-0 in Regional 24. They travel to Kaskaskia next week to face the other Regional team.
