The women’s tennis team finished the first day of the NJCAA National Championships in Tucson, Arizona, tied for 13th with five other teams by earning six points from their three main draw wins.

The only seeded Trailblazer, Claire Morrissey at #7 overall in #2 singles, won her match 6-3, 6-1. She stays in the main draw along with her teammates Mel Schlaeger (#1 singles), who also won 6-3, 6-1, and Abby Mundel (#5 singles), who won 6-0, 6-1.

All main draw matches are best two sets out of three and wins there are worth two points for the school. All consolation matches are eight-game pro-sets and are worth a half point for the school.

Tomorrow brings another full slate of matches, with starting times ranging from 7:30 am to 5:00 pm.  Two players face the challenge of seeded players. Schlaeger plays the #2 seed in #1 singles and Mundel plays the #5 seed in #5 singles.
