Lewis and Clark Community College is hosting a Wellness Fair on Wednesday, Oct 21 and Thursday, Oct. 22 from 9 a.m. until 2 p.m. in The Commons.
The Wellness Fair features a Depression and Substance Abuse Screening, blood pressure screenings, nutritional information, essential oil demonstrations, drunk goggle demonstrations, Affordable Care Act information and healthy snack samples. A blood drive is also being held on Wednesday, Oct 21, from 10 a.m. until 2 p.m.
L&C dental students are performing oral cancer screenings and will be providing personal oral hygiene tips and instructions.
“The dental hygiene students get to help contribute by volunteering at this event,” said Chris Hallstead, Dental Hygiene and Dental Assisting coordinator. “Projects like this help reinforce to the students that it is important to give back as part of their profession.”
L&C nursing students are performing diabetes screenings for $15, cholesterol screenings for $20 and flu shots for $25 (or free with most insurances).
Student Development and Counseling Services organize the Depression and Substance Abuse Screening to coincide with the fair every year. Renee Bauer has been involved with the screening for 16 years, and is a counselor here on campus.
“Three years ago we added the substance abuse screening tool because it had been requested by the faculty,” Bauer said. “Providing screenings can be a first step to identification and treatment.”
