Veterans Services

Lewis and Clark's Veterans Services department is here to provide support to veteran and service member students to help make their educational experience a smooth and successful one.

In 2010 and in 2011, L&C was recognized by G.I. Jobs Magazine and named a Military Friendly School. The honor ranks L&C in the top 15 percent of all colleges, universities and trade schools nationwide for its services to veterans and service members.

Also in 2010, L&C affirmed its continuing support of our country's Guard and Reserve members by signing an Employer's Statement of Support for the Guard and Reserve, recognizing the essential role of each in preserving our national security and pledging that the college has the tools and procedures in place to effectively manage those employees who serve.

L&C is a member of the “Servicemember’s Opportunity College” Consortium, created in 1972 to provide educational opportunities to service members who, because they frequently moved from place to place, had trouble completing college degrees. SOC is funded by the Department of Defense  through a contract with the American Association of State Colleges and Universities (AASCU). Learn more at http://www.soc.aascu.org/.

Tutorial Assistance
L&C offers free tutoring in many academic fields through the Student Success Center. The VA may also pay for some tutoring.

NOTE: General studies and community education courses not required for a degree do not count for VA benefits, nor may courses taken outside your major be used to determine enrollment status for federal education benefits. However, the Illinois Veterans Grant may pay tuition if grades for these courses are assigned an academic standing computed by L&C.

Employment Assistance
Beginning June 2011, Veterans Employment Representative Lee Russell from the Illinois Department of Employment Security (IDES) will be on campus in Caldwell Hall, Room 1333 to assist veteran and service member students with employment questions, job searches, etc. Russell will be on campus on the last Wednesday of each month from 9:30-11:30 a.m. until further notice (except during winter break).

Resources and Benefits
You may also be eligible for other benefits and services, including education benefits, employment benefits, health benefits and more. Here's a handy guide to what's available, but for the most complete and updated information, please come see us.
