History
The Hatheway Cultural Center was originally dedicated in the early 1960's and named for Norah Dell Hatheway Whitney. The building was later renovated and rededicated on November 15, 1989. Although many still refer to it as "Hatheway Hall", the auditorium portion of the building was at that time named Ann Whitney Olin Theatre. This was accomplished through a gift from the Spencer T. and Ann W. Olin Foundation. It was "in appreciation of her love of the Arts and her dedicated service to Monticello College and the cultural life of the community."
Many performers, entertainers, and educators have graced the stage of Ann Whitney Olin Theatre. Musical groups such as the National Band of New Zealand, Phoenix Boys Choir, the U.S. Navy Commodores, and the St. Louis Symphony Orchestra have performed here, in addition to many high school, collegiate, and community musical ensembles. The St. Louis Ballet Company has performed here frequently along with numerous regional dance studios. Dramatic works such as The Crucible, Bitterroot, and Kiss Me Kate have also been performed here. Local talent shows, collegiate graduation ceremonies, and other community events, such as the Cooking Show, take place annually on the stage of Ann Whitney Olin Theatre.
