Educational Talent Search

Educational Talent Search is a federally funded grant program for middle school and high school students, high school dropouts, and high school graduates who have the academic potential to further their education after receiving a high school diploma or GED certificate.

To increase their awareness of available educational opportunities, students receive educational guidance counseling, experiences and support, as well as assistance in preparing for and enrolling in a post-secondary educational program.

Program Activities

Talent Search advisors generally see program participants twice a month. Activities vary by school and grade, but may include:

Career inventories and development
Educational and personal development videos
College Financial Aid information
College Financial Aid preparation assistance
Goal-setting activities
Test taking and study skills
College visits
College orientation and research
Scholarship searches
Multi-media study skills
Academic advising
Cultural field trips and activities
ACT/SAT preparation

Program Requirements

To participate in the program, students must:

Complete an application with parent/guardian signature
Maintain at least a “C” grade point average
Attend Talent Search workshops regularly
Display the ability to meet program standards.
