As the saying goes, "money makes the world go round." Actually it's the exchange of money for goods and services that keeps the world going. Otherwise known as commerce-or business.
Although the Associate in Science Degree for Business is primarily meant to serve as preparation for further studies in business leading to a baccalaureate degree, it does provide the student with some basic business skills as needed in many entry-level positions in such areas as insurance offices, office assistant in a medical, legal or dental office, or administrative work in manufacturing environments or information services, such as website development companies, or in travel agencies, sales organizations, media companies, and municipal governments.
At L&C you get the chance to study up close how this vast system of business works. You will learn how companies, corporations, entrepreneurs, farmers, nonprofits, governments, stock markets and consumers keep the money flowing in the U.S. and the economies of the world. You will become familiar with how they track and account for revenues and expenses and how they project profits and financial losses. You will see how they make and market their products and manage their employees, and how business entities merge and make acquisitions of each other.
Like many aspects of today's global economy, the business world is full of shifts, challenges and advantages. It's an exciting time to be a business major.
L&C's degree program below provides courses in general education and in such business-related areas as accounting and economics which enable you to transfer as a junior to most four-year colleges and pursue a four-year degree.
