Kids early on are fascinated by chemistry. Think your first experiment in mixing compounds (usually a low-grade explosion, almost always unauthorized!).
Fast forward. You don’t have to be a mad scientist type. But a chemistry major may be just the ticket if you are still hooked with a passion for the science. Chemistry majors are indispensable to industry. Did you know that about 75 percent of chemists are employed in industry? In places like petroleum refineries, food companies, biotechnology, environmental institutions, textile manufacturers, drug companies, molecular biology and biotechnology research labs, hazardous waste management, art conservation, forensic science, quality or process control in factories, even newspapers and magazines, to name just a few. Chemistry majors are strong candidates to move into sales, marketing, or management, or into combined careers such as the patent field.
The 25 percent of chemists who don’t work in industry are employed by government agencies or academia, as researchers, regulators or professors.
L&C’s degree program below provides courses in general education, and 34 credit hours in chemistry, which enable you to transfer as a junior to a four-year college and pursue a BS degree.
