Nate Gnau, of Brighton, was sworn in as Lewis and Clark Community College’s Student Trustee in the Spring of 2012 to replace former trustee Amitie Flynn, of Jerseyville.
As the student trustee, Gnau represents the student body and its interests to the rest of the college’s Board of Trustees. He gives the students a voice at the board’s monthly meetings, and uses his voice on air as a Radio Broadcasting student and business manager for WLCA-FM.
“I’ve always had an interest in the media,” said the Southwestern High School graduate. “I love that the program here is so hands on. Everything is literally at my fingertips, and we’ve got some of the best equipment in the industry.”
Gnau can be heard on air at 89.9-FM on your radio dial, or online at
www.wlcafm.com.
“My shifts are usually pretty energetic and quick-paced, just to keep the flow going,” he said.
Some of his favorite bands include the Foo Fighters, The Bottle Rockets, Foxy Shazam, Superfun Yeah Yeah Rocketship, Grynch, Macklemore, Lenny Kravitz, Justice and Daft Punk – and he is an avid fan of blues music. The best concert he has ever seen was The David Mayfield Parade at The Duck Room at Blueberry Hill on Nov. 3, 2011, and his favorite radio personality is “Radio Rich” Dalton from K-HITS 96.
“There's not a single person in St. Louis who can recount as much music information or as many stories,” he said.
Gnau plans to earn his associate degree in the Spring of 2013, and then hopes to find work at a commercial radio station – either on the business side or as a radio personality.
He chose Lewis and Clark because of its closeness to home, affordability, and “totally rockin’ radio program.”
“(Nate) has a big personality and is extremely outgoing – very professional, but still young at heart,” said Mike Lemons, Radio Broadcasting program coordinator and WLCA station manager. “He’s a strong student, and a great leader – the student body is lucky to have him as a student trustee.”
