Financial Aid

There are numerous financial aid options for L&C students who need financial assistance while attending classes.  L&C’s Financial Aid Office is the best place to obtain information about grants, scholarships, loans, and work-study programs.  We can direct you to a variety of sources, including federal, state, other public and private organizations.

The Financial Aid Office staff is here to help you understand the financial aid programs available to you and to assist you in completing application forms.  Please feel free to contact your financial aid advisor if you have questions about the financial aid process.

Applying for Aid

The financial aid process might seem complicated, but it’s actually very straightforward.

To apply:

  1. Apply for admission to L&C.
  2. Fill out the “Request for Financial Aid” application that’s included with the admissions application.
  3. Complete the Free Application for Federal Student Aid (FAFSA).  This is the standard form the federal government uses to determine how much your family can contribute to your educational expenses.  If you qualify for financial aid, the amount of aid you receive is based on the difference between the cost of L&C and your family’s contribution. The FAFSA is available online at www.fafsa.ed.gov , your high school guidance office, L&C’s Financial Aid Office, and all Community Education Centers, usually at the end of November.
  4. Submit the FAFSA by March 1.  (The earliest you may submit it is January 1.)
  5. Be sure to request that the results of your FAFSA be sent to L&C.  Our code is 010020.
  6. Several weeks later, you’ll receive a Student Aid Report (SAR) mailed to your home address, informing you of your estimated family contribution.
  7. If no further information is needed, L&C’s Financial Aid Office will calculate your estimated award package, and you will receive an award letter in the mail.  You may return your signed award letter to the Financial Aid Office, or accept your awards on-line at L&C’s website.

Once we know the amount of aid you’re eligible for, our financial aid personnel will create an individualized aid package for you using federal, state, and L&C funds.  A typical need-based package consists of grants, low-interest loans, and work-study earnings.

The application process takes time.  It is of the utmost importance that you provide accurate and reliable information, complete the forms accurately, and remain patient during the financial aid process.  To allow the Financial Aid Office time to process your financial aid application and to ensure timely payment of your educational expenses, start the application process early.
