Reid Library takes seriously its role of providing instructional support to faculty. We look forward to assisting our faculty and encourage any feedback to help us with this mission. Faculty interested in learning more about how Reid Library can provide instructional support should call the Director at 618-468-4310.

Collection Development

The primary objective of collection development is to support the educational curriculum of Lewis and Clark Community College. When selecting material for acquisition the following criteria are considered. Faculty are encouraged to contact the Library Director at 618-468-4310 for information about requesting material for purchase. As a general rule the Library does not purchase textbooks. The Library does subscribe to a rotating popular reading collection. To suggest a title contact Assistant Director for Instructional Services at 618-468-4320.

Collection development criteria:

  • How does the material support the educational curriculum?
  • How does the existing library collection cover the subject matter of the requested material?
  • Is the intended audience for the material consistent with academic library users?
  • What is the price of the material?
  • Does the material represent it's subject matter in an accurate fashion?
  • Is the material available in a format that will withstand heavy use?
  • How much demand is there for this material?
Copying and Faxing

Reid 2221 contains a network printer, photocopier, and fax for faculty use. A 6 digit departmental code is necessary to make photocopies. There is currently no charge for departmental faxes. Personal faxes are billed at $1.00 to send/receive the first page and $.25 for all additional pages. Faculty/Staff are responsible for collecting their faxes.

The library cannot borrow materials from other libraries that are owned or may be accessed electronically from Reid Memorial Library.

Requesting Interlibrary Loan Items Through the Internet

Requests for interlibrary loan material may also be submitted to the LCCC Interlibrary Loan Office through the Internet. This service is only available through the following databases. To send an application, click on the blue button above the words "ILL" in any of the following databases. You will then be prompted to complete an online application. Please remember that you must have your Campus ID activated to use this service. You will be notified when your material is available to be picked up in the Library.

High School Partnership Students are also welcome to visit Reid Library for reference assistance. For more information, call our Education Librarian at 618-468-4320.

Reserve Material

Faculty may place items on reserve for classes and workshops. Reserves may be designated library use only, two hour reserve, overnight reserve, three day reserve and seven day reserve. To ensure compliance with copyright law under 17 U.S.C. Section 107, Reid Memorial Library has implemented the following rules regarding reserve material.

Library material placed on reserve may be returned back into the circulating collection if there is little demand for it as reserve material or if the amount requested for a specific subject greatly reduces the amount available for the circulating collection. Both of these circumstances will be determined by the Director.

Please allow 48 hours before reserve materials are available. Reserve forms are available at the Circulation Desk. For more information please contact the Library Assistant - Circulation Desk at 618-468-4301.

Rules for placing material on reserve:

  • Limit book(s) to single articles or chapters. (If the book chapter or article is a photocopy, rather than the book itself, then copyright permission must be granted by the publisher if the material is to be placed on reserve for more than one semester.)
  • Limit to a small part of the materials required for the course.
  • Limit to copies that a faculty member or the Library already possesses legally.
  • Must include a copyright notice from the original.
  • Must include a date of publication on the original.
  • Include appropriate citations and attributions to the source.
  • Include Section 108(f)(1) copyright notice.
  • Limit access to students enrolled in the class and administrative staff as needed.
  • Terminate access to periodical articles at the end of the semester unless permission from the publisher has been granted and given to the library.

Setting up Electronic Reserves

Faculty who wish to Web enhance their instruction with a Web page with links to Internet resources may contact Dennis Krieb at 618-468-4330. Faculty may also place articles on "electronic reserve" by selecting articles from any of the following databases. Electronic reserve articles are available to all LCCC students with a valid student ID from any off-campus computer that has Internet access. Another advantage of electronic reserve articles is that they are not subject to the copyright restrictions associated with print reserves. The following is a list of databases available for selecting electronic reserve articles. For more information about setting up an electronic reserves page for your class contact the Director at 618-468-4310.
