Who is required to see an advisor?
The following types of students must meet with an advisor before registering:
- New students registering for math or English for the first time or enrolling in a degree or certificate program
- Students in a selective admissions program
- Athletes
- International students
- Returning students wishing to change their degree or certificate program
- Students on academic probation or are returning from academic suspension
Athletes
L&C student athletes are required to seek academic advisement through Peg Mitchell, Assistant Athletic Director. New students who have not completed college-level English or math and who will be participating in one of the National Junior College Athletic Association Division II sports are required to complete the Accuplacer College Placement Test (CPT) before meeting with Peg Mitchell. To make an appointment for testing and advisement, call Peg Mitchell directly at 618-468-6240 or the Secretary of Student Activities and Athletics at 618-468-6002.
How do I arrange to see an advisor?
Check with the Main Campus Enrollment Center (Baldwin Hall, Room 1450; Phone: 618-468-5222) in Godfrey to determine if advisors are seeing students on an appointment or walk-in basis. Coordinators at the Community Education Centers (CEC) advise students on an appointment basis. The CEC phone numbers are listed below:

- Tri-County Community Education Center in Jerseyville: 618-468-2273
New students planning to enroll in a degree or certificate program at L&C and who have not completed college-level English or math must call the L&C Assessment Center at 618-468-5221 to make an appointment for the College Placement Test (CPT). In most instances, new students are able to meet with an advisor after taking the CPT.
How do I prepare for an advising session?
Your active and informed participation in the advising process is important and ensures your understanding of the degree requirements for your program.
To prepare for an advising session, returning students should go to BlazerNet, access their student records, and bring the following to the advising session:
- A copy of your L&C college transcript
- A copy of the your program evaluation
- A tentative schedule of courses you're considering with the section numbers, days, and times
- A list of question and issues to discuss

- 10:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m., Monday
- 8:30 a.m.-6:30 p.m., Tuesday and Wednesday
- 8:30 a.m.-3:30 p.m., Thursday, and Friday
