The Graduation Process

What do I need to do to graduate? The procedure for preparing to graduate is very simple.  Just follow these four steps:

1. Meet with your faculty advisor or an advisor in the Enrollment Center by the appropriate application deadline date.

Graduation Application Deadline Date

  • Fall Semester Graduation: September 15
  • Spring Semester Graduation: December 15
  • Summer I and II Graduation: March 1

2. During your appointment with the advisor, complete:

  • The Application for Graduation,
  • The Official Graduation checklist, and
  • The Illinois Occupational Follow-Up Survey.

3. Receive a Graduation Payment Information card from the advisor.  Take this card to the Bursar's Office in Baldwin, Room 2450, and pay the non-refundable graduation fee.  (Your Application for Graduation will not be processed until payment is received.)

4. Complete the course requirements listed on your official graduation evaluation. PLEASE NOTE: After completing this application procedure, you will not receive any further correspondence from the college regarding degree or certificate requirements. It is your responsibility to complete these requirements.  If you fail or withdraw from any required course, contact an Enrollment Center Records Specialist immediately to change your graduation date.

Any exception or waiver of these requirements must be approved by the Academic Vice President.

Are there fees?  Will it cost me for more than one certificate or degree?

The graduation fee is $35.00.  It is a one-time fee, so it will cover multiple certificates and degrees.

If something happens and I can’t graduate, do I have to pay again later?

No.  Once you’ve paid the fee, it never has to be paid again.

Can I graduate from more than one program at the same time or more than one degree or certificate?

Yes.  However, you cannot receive both an Associate in Science and an Associate in Arts.

Other Important Graduation Information

  • After the semester ends in which you plan to graduate, the Enrollment Center will certify your graduation. Your transcript will be updated to show your degree, and your diploma will be predated.  You will be informed by letter if the Enrollment Center is unable to certify your graduation.  If the problem can be resolved, your graduation will be certified.  Otherwise, you will need to state when you will complete the requirements. Your file will remain inactive until you schedule completion with the Enrollment Center.
  •  If you need any waivers or substitutions, it is your responsibility to contact your advisor and to make sure the proper forms are initiated and processed. The Enrollment Center will send you a copy when the process is complete.
  •  The Enrollment Center will inform you by letter when to pick up your diploma.
