EDWARDSVILLE — Soccer, it seems, is in Cooper Nolan’s DNA. And so are trips to the IHSA Boys State Soccer Tournament,
Chris Nolan, Cooper’s father, played soccer at Granite City High School and was in on one of the multitude of state championships captured by the Warriors. Cooper came up one game shy of a state title last fall with Edwardsville, but a third-place state finish in the Class 3A tournament was good for another state medal for the family.
Cooper Nolan, who scored 21 goals and was one of two All-State players for Edwardsville coach Mark Heiderscheid, is this year’s Telegraph Large Schools Player of the Year.
When he began sifting through college offers, Cooper kept coming back to one school in particular - Lewis and Clark Community College.
“I was considering offers from (NCAA) Division I down to NAIA schools,” Cooper Nolan said. “But Lewis and Clark became an obvious choice.
“I chose Lewis and Clark because I was interested in staying close to home and they have a great program.
