Article by: Pete Hayes, the Telegraph,

GODFREY — The L&C Trailblazers had their scoring shoes on Tuesday - and their pitching wasn’t bad either.

The Trailblazers scored a combined 21 runs in two games and swept a JUCO baseball doubleheader with Danville Area College Tuesday, 11-1 in six innings and 10-0 in five innings. Both games were called by the 10-run mercy rule.

Brandon Hampton, a sophomore from Civic Memorial High School, pitched all six innings in the opener. He scattered four hits, struck out five and walked one.

In the nightcap, the Trailblazers’ Quinton Kujawa, a sophomore from Mount Vernon, worked all five innings. He struck out four and walked none.

“We had a pretty good day,” L&C coach Randy Martz said. “We had solid hitting and the pitching was outstanding.”

On the day, L&C’s Nick Wilke, a freshman catcher from Wentzville, had three hits and three RBIs, Ernest Plummer, a freshman from Danville, had five hits an four RBIs and Dusty Sutton, a sophomore from Steelville, had four hits and two RBIs.

With the victories, the Trailblazers run their overall record to 11-8. They’ll be in action April 9 at home against Danville.
