VINCENNES, IN — The Lewis and Clark Community College baseball team swept a doubleheader at Vincennes University’s Jerry Blemker Field Monday, wining the first game 5-3 and taking the second game 6-1 in seven innings.
The Region 24 victories extended L&C’s winning streak to five games and it's overall record to 18-11 heading into a scheduled doubleheader Tuesday at VU.
Vincennes fell to 18-21 with the losses.
“We looked pretty good in both games,” L&C coach Randy Martz said. “Got good pitching and some timely hitting.”
In the opener, L&C grabbed a 3-0 lead in the top of the first, but Vincennes countered with a pair of runs in the bottom of the inning to make it 3-2. L&C pulled away with two more in the fifth. Vincennes capped the scoring with a single run in the sixth.
Dylan Walker had a pair of hits in the opener, an rbi and scored a run.
Brandon Hampton got the win on the mound for L&C. He pitched six innings, scattered six hits, struck out one and walked four. Devin McCullough came on in as relief in the seventh and pitched the final three innings. He struck out six, walked one and allowed one hit.
In the seven-inning nightcap, Lewis and Clark led 6-0 after three innings and never looked back.
L&C’s Tate Wargo went 2-for-3 with a triple and had an RBI and a run scored. Konnor Loewen had a pair of RBIs. Other L&C runs were driven in by Ernest Plummer, Dusty Sutton and Dylan Walker.
Quinton Kujawa went the distance on the mound for L&C and ran his record to 5-0. He struck out five, walked five and scattered six hits.
