L&C Wins Defensive Battle at Shawnee

Article by: Pete Hayes, the Telegraph,

ULLIN — Lewis and Clark, a team that’s made a living on offense this season, found itself in a defensive struggle in JUCO basketball action Wednesday night at Shawnee College.

The Trailblazers showed can win that way, too.

L&C held Shawnee to 30 and 28 points in each half and grabbed a 63-58 District 16 men’s basketball victory.

“I’m really proud of our defense tonight,” L&C coach Doug Stotler said. “If we score our usual 80 points tonight, we win easy, but nothing is easy here.”

The Trailblazers came into the game averaging 87.9 points a game and Shawnee’s points-per-game average was 85.6. But Wednesday, defense stole the show.

The Trailblazers and Saints were tied 30-30 at halftime.

The victory for the Trailblazers pushed their overall record to 6-3 and their District 16 mark to 2-2. Shawnee dropped to 8-4 and 3-2.
