GODFREY — On a festive Blazer Day at L&C that featured a chance to honor the L&C women’s soccer team and plenty of fans on campus, the Trailblazers men’s basketball team did what it could to add to the cheer.

It worked and L&C claimed a 110-97 district win over Lake Land.

“We kept talking about getting to the foul line and getting to the paint,” L&C coach Doug Stotler said. “That opens the outside.”

L&C made 14 three-point attempts to go with scads of inside shots and lay-ins.

“We took care of the scoring part of things really good,” Stotler said. “But, so did Lake Land. They put over 90 points up. It was like one of our typical L&C-Lake Land games with a lot of scoring.”

The victory also clinched the first .500 season for L&C since it moved to NJCAA Division I 10 years ago.

“It’s been a long time coming,” Stotler said. “This group has fought for it every inch of the way.

The Trailblazers pulled away from a 54-48 halftime lead and rolled past Lake Land 110-97 at the George C. Terry River Bend Arena. The victory keeps L&C in the hunt for a shot at the No. 5 seed at the upcoming NJCAA Distinct 16/Region 24 Tournament. L&C is 16-10 and 9-9 in District 16 play.
