GODFREY — So much for a showdown. Coach Doug Stotler would have settled for his team to just show up in its District 16 game against ninth-ranked and defending national champion Vincennes University Saturday night at the River Bend Arena.
“I’m pretty disappointed,” Stotler said after an 86-50 thrashing at the hands of VU. “We’ve got a lot of work to do.”
The loss dropped to 11-5 overall and 5-4 against district competition. Vincennes is 17-2 and 8-1.
Lewis and Clark dropped its second consecutive “showdown” game against teams Stotler has long regarded as the district’s upper crust. After Wednesday’s loss at Southwestern Illinois, he still was hoping for a stronger effort from his Trailblazers. Including earlier losses to John A. Logan and Wabash Valley, is 1-3 against that upper crust.
