GODFREY — Doug Stotler stared at the ceiling at the conclusion of Monday night’s L&C 74-71 victory over Shawnee College at the River Bend Arena.
“We finally won a game,” Stotler said after a couple deep breaths. “It feels good.”
The District 16 victory ended a four-game losing streak and left the L&C men at 6-8 in the district standings and 13-9 overall. The Trailblazers are tied with Shawnee in the district standings, but L&C owns the tiebreaker with two wins over the Saints, who dropped to 13-10 overall.
With a fight for their district standing looming down the stretch, the Trailblazers seemed destined to drop another notch Monday, but rallied from six points down with 3:20 remaining for the victory.
“Holding the opposition to 71 points, I’m satisfied with that,” Stotler said, “and we were able to battle through a lot of free throws we gave them in the first half.
