Trailblazers Up to the Challenge, Blank JWC

Article by: Pete Hayes, the Telegraph,

GODFREY — Ryan Hodge wants his L&C men’s soccer team to be challenged. In his mind, the Trailblazers only get tournament tough if they face tough opponents.

John Wood College of Quincy obliged Wednesday at Tim Rooney Stadium. And to make things even more satisfactory to Hodge, his Trailblazers notched a 4-0 Region 24 victory.

“This is just our second shutout of the season,” Hodge said, “and it wasn’t easy. (JWC) played with skill, with really fast pace and made it tough on us.

“That’s what we need because that’s what we’ll see in the playoffs.”

Those playoffs are still nearly a month away, however. What remains at hand is a stretch run in the season that Hodge hopes ends up with the regular-season Region 24 title and with it home-field advantage through the postseason region tournament.

L&C ran its overall mark to 7-2 overall and 3-0 in Region 24 action.

With Monday’s home game against rival Illinois Central College postponed for wet field conditions, Hodge’s Trailblazers had an extra two days rest heading into Wednesday’s game against JWC.
