QUINCY — Saturday was a long, wet day for the Lewis and Clark Community Collage soccer teams. But after all was said and done, the L&C men’s and women’s teams emerged with a doubleheader sweep of John Wood College, as well as home-field advantage in the postseason.
The L&C men beat John Wood 2-0 and the LC women rolled to a 12-0 victory in the nightcap. The doubleheader was originally scheduled for noon and 2 p.m. at John Wood CC, but because of rain, was delayed until Saturday night and moved to Quincy’s Flinn Stadium. The men’s showdown started at 5 p.m. with the women’s game starting at 7 p.m.
The victory by the Trailblazers men’s team secured the regular-season Region 24 championship and that home-field advantage through the playoffs. The No. 6-ranked women’s team had already wrapped up their region title, but the victory over John Wood completed an unbeaten run through Region 24.
The region tournaments are set to begin Oct. 25. The Region 24 champion in the men’s and women’s tourney’s will play host to the district tournament, from which the top two teams will advance to their respective NJCAA National Tournament in November.
