L&C softball team splits a pair with Spoon River

GODFREY - The Lewis and Clark Community College Trailblazers softball team split a pair with visiting Spoon River College, winning 10-9 in eight innings and losing 6-1.

L&C 10, Spoon River 9 (8 inn.) - L&C came from behind with four runs in the bottom of the eighth inning for the victory. Spoon River had scored three runs in the top of the eighth to take a 9-6 lead after having scored three in the seventh to force the extra inning.

Bethany Muenstermann went 4-for-4 for L&C with an RBI and a run scored and Abby Palen went 3-for-4 with a triple, two RBIs and a pair of runs scored. Allison Beckman was 3-for-5 with a double, a run scored and an RBI.

L&C’s Lauren Meadows was 2-for-5 with a triple, two runs scored and a pair of RBIs.

In the circle, the Trailblazers’ Kaylee Hefley got the victory. She pitched two inning and allowed three runs, but her teammates let her off the hook with the rally in the eighth. L&C starter Sydney Henrichs worked six innings, allowed two hits, struck out nine, walked seven and allowed three runs.

Spoon River 6, L&C 1 - Spoon River broke open a close game with four runs in the sixth inning on its way to the victory.

Henrichs went 3-for-3 with a double and had the Trailblazers’ only RBI. Alllison Beckman was 2-for-3 with a triple.

Hannah Rexford was the tough-luck loser for L&C. The freshman from Roxana pitched 5 2/3 innings, struck out three, walked none and allowed six hits and four runs. Bethany Muenstermann worked the last 1 1/3 innings, struck out one and walked one.

L&C is 13-7 overall heading into a doubleheader at home Wednesday against Mineral Area College beginning at 2 p.m.
