Children Learn, Play and Meet Pros at Tennis Clinic During USTA

GODFREY – A large group of children attended Lewis and Clark Community College’s Children’s Tennis Clinic in the George C. Terry River Bend Arena on Saturday, July 20.
 
Groups from the Alton Boys and Girls Club, Bethalto Boys and Girls Club, Alton Housing Authority, Godfrey Park and Recreation tennis camp and community learned all about the game from players and pros.
 
USTA Children Tennis Clinic Tennis professionals Stephen Hoh, University of Illinois alum,­­­ and Tim Kopinski, a current Illini tennis player explained the game to the children and gave a demonstration of a tennis match.
 
Volunteers from the college’s tennis team and community helped the children learn skills and drills.
 
“It was a great success,” said coordinator Jared Hennings. “The children learned and had fun too.”
 
The clinic was held in conjunction with the 16th Annual Lewis and Clark Community College USTA Men’s Pro Circuit Futures tournament at the college.
