GODFREY — The start of Monday night’s L&C-Danville Area College women’s basketball game was late - almost two weeks late - because of a winter weather delay. Once the teams tipped off, it still took a while before things warmed up.
Lewis and Clark Community College started slowly, but pulled away from Danville 47-36 in Region 24 action at the River Bend Arena.
The Trailblazers ran their record to 14-6 with their second consecutive victory. Danville dipped to 2-16.
L&C led just 6-5 after the first quarter, but outscored the Jaguars 20-7 in the second quarter to take a 26-13 halftime lead. The Trailblazers led 39-20 heading into the fourth quarter.
Alexus Williams, a sophomore transfer from Memphis by way of Grambling State, led the Trailblazers with 12 points. Teammate Shernika Spencer added 10 points.
Danville was led by Maria Falanga, who scored 13 points.
The victory came on the heels of a 69-65 L&C victory over Parkland Saturday.
Next up will be a home date at 1 p.m. Saturday against Illinois Central College, the No. 1-ranked NJCAA Division II team in the country. That will be followed by a return matchup at Danville Feb. 20.
