GODFREY — Coming out of last spring’s “covid season,” the Lewis and Clark Community College volleyball team headed into this fall’s 2021 season filled with potential and a desire to improve on the spring’s 0-13 mark.
Trailblazers coach Bron Wilkerson said that while parts of those goals may have been met, there’s plenty of incentive remaining for next season, even as the postseason nears for this season’s team.
“It’s a great team,” Wilkerson said, “but they didn’t reach their potential. They’ll be working hard in the offseason to make a big next-season impact.”
L&C is 5-16 as it prepares to wind up the regular-season portion of its schedule. The Trailblazers, facing a rescheduled home date with Frontier College of Fairfield Monday, also may play Southeastern Illinois College of Harrisburg Saturday at L&C.
“Southeastern Illinois started a volleyball program this year,” L&C athletic director Doug Stotler said, “but they didn’t play everybody in Region 24. so we’re not sure if we need to get in a game against them or not. We’re still trying to figure that one out.”
No matter whether the Trailblazers face one of two more opponents before the postseason, they’ll play in the Region 24 A Tournament starting next week, the schedule still pending.
