Three Trailblazers Still in Play at Nationals

Article by: Jim Hunstein,
The women’s tennis team had a rough second day at the NJCAA National Championships. The Trailblazers lost six matches and dropped in the national ranking from 14th to 22nd overall.

In their respective main draw matches, #1 singles Mel Schlaeger, #2 singles Claire Morrissey (the #7 overall seed in her flight), and #5 singles Abby Mundel all lost their matches.  Likewise, in their consolation round matches, #3 singles Taylor Stevenson, #2 doubles Stevenson and Nikki Steiner, and #3 doubles Abby Mundel and Alex Dennis lost their matches.

The news isn’t all that bleak, however. The Trailblazers have three entries still in play at Nationals. All are competing in the quarterfinals of their respective consolation round flights.  Playing in the morning will be #4 singles Steiner and #6 singles Dennis.
