USTA Singles and Doubles Main Draw Play Starts Tuesday 

Oleg Dmitriev, 29, of Russia, was beaming when Andy Simpson personally congratulated him on his win in the last round of qualifying Monday in the USTA Futures at Lewis and Clark. “It feels great to be in,” Dmitriev said. “It was a very good match and I’m looking forward to playing in my first main in a few months.” No. 14 Dmitriev, who has a 1535 ITF ranking, defeated No. 4 American Dane Webb, a sophomore at the University of Oklahoma, 7-5, 2-6, 6-4.

USTA: Top-Seeded Players Advance to Third Round of Qualifying

Saturday was a winning day for the majority of top-seeded players in the second qualifying round in the 16th Annual Lewis and Clark Community College USTA Men’s Pro Circuit Futures tournament. Of the 16 seeded players in the qualifying field, 12 advanced to the third round on Sunday at 8:30 a.m. at the Andy Simpson Tennis Complex at the college and Alton High School tennis courts.

Children Learn, Play and Meet Pros at Tennis Clinic During USTA

A large group of children attended Lewis and Clark Community College’s Children’s Tennis Clinic in the George C. Terry River Bend Arena on Saturday, July 20. Groups from the Alton Boys and Girls Club, Bethalto Boys and Girls Club, Alton Housing Authority, Godfrey Park and Recreation tennis camp and community learned all about the game from players and pros.
