Home - About L&C - Community Campuses - History Historic Campuses Founded in 1970, L&C held its first classes on the grounds of Monticello College, a small, private liberal arts college for women founded in 1838. Monticello College closed in 1971, and its picturesque 215-acre campus became the beautiful main campus of Lewis and Clark Community College. Since holding its first class in 1970, L&C’s growth has been remarkable. Over the past decade, our enrollment has grown more than 60 percent. We now serve more than 25,000 credit and non-credit students annually.
