This technical discipline involves sampling methodology and physical, chemical, and biological examination of natural and potable water, domestic and industrial wastewater, air quality, solid waste, plant and animal species sampling, and other related samples.

The goal of the programs are to combine hands-on field sampling and laboratory skill courses in biology and chemistry, with general-education courses so that students have a firm foundation in basic academic skills as well as skills important to being an environmental technician. The curriculum places emphasis on the development of laboratory skills centered on field sampling and collection/identification of specimens, as well as the acquisition of critical thinking, communication, data management and problem solving ability for entry into the job market.

The program also leads to the completion of an Associate in Science (AS) degree, which is transferable to four-year colleges and universities by students who are competitively positioned due to these skills.
