Lewis and Clark's Veteran Services department is here to provide support to veteran and service member students to help make their educational experience a smooth and successful one. That includes questions or issues involving WIOA, VA education benefits, State of IL education benefits based on military service and any other questions or issues affecting military or veteran students and their families.
L&C continues to be recognized by G.I. Jobs Magazine and Victory Media as a Military Friendly School. The honor ranks L&C in the top 20 percent of all colleges, universities and trade schools nationwide for its services to veterans and service members.
In 2010, L&C affirmed its continuing support of our country's Guard and Reserve members by signing an Employer's Statement of Support for the Guard and Reserve, recognizing the essential role of each in preserving our national security and pledging that the college has the tools and procedures in place to effectively manage those employees who serve.
Tutorial Assistance
L&C offers free tutoring in many academic fields through the Student Success Center. The VA may also pay for some tutoring.
NOTE: General studies and community education courses not required for a degree do not count for VA benefits, nor may courses taken outside your major be used to determine enrollment status for federal education benefits. However, the Illinois Veterans Grant may pay tuition if grades for these courses are assigned an academic standing computed by L&C.
Employment Assistance
Veteran and servicemember students are encouraged to take advantage of programs and services offered by the Illinois Department of Employment Services, the Madison County Employment and Training office (for Madison County residents) and the Madison County Veterans Assistance Commission (or the VAC in your county). You will also receive employment information emailed to you at your lc.edu email address.
Resources and Benefits
You may also be eligible for other benefits and services, including education benefits, employment benefits, health benefits and more. Here's a handy guide to what's available, but for the most complete and updated information, please come see us.
