Lewis and Clark Community College can help you earn your high school diploma, and even help transition you into college-level courses, if that's what you choose.

State of Illinois High School Diploma preparation classes offer instruction in reading, writing, social studies, science, and math so that students will have the skills necessary to pass their exam and earn their diploma. Courses are offered throughout Lewis and Clark's district at various times and locations to make them convenient for you.

L&C ranks higher than the state average in the amount of students who take State of Illinois High School Diploma exam and meet or exceed the required pass/fail score to graduate. In addition, L&C provides a caring and dedicated staff that empower individuals through education and will work with the students on transitioning to their next step beyond their diploma, whether it be post-secondary education or employment.

This program is formerly known as GED®/ High School Equivalency.

Orientation

Before starting high school diploma prep classes, students must attend an orientation, which includes taking part in educational and goal-setting activities in addition to completing reading and math assessments. These assessments are designed to assist the student and instructor in determining what instruction would best serve the needs of the learner. Instructors will discuss various options available during orientation and will supply additional test information and material as needed. To get started, please contact our office at (618) 468-4141.

Test Preparation

Lewis and Clark Adult Education's Illinois High School Diploma preparation program provides the quality basic skills education necessary to pass the Illinois High School Diploma exam.

Class instruction, assessments and materials used in class are all available free to program participants. 

Classes are taught by experienced adult education teachers. Instruction is based on the needs of the students in all key areas of Illinois High School Diploma preparation, including language arts, reading, writing, social studies, science and the required U.S./Illinois Constitution.

Individuals will benefit from taking Illinois High School Diploma preparation classes before taking the test. Adult education coordinators and teachers will help determine if you are academically ready to take the test or if you need additional class preparation. The Illinois High School Diploma test measures important knowledge and skills expected of high school graduates.
