GET STARTED AT L&C

Lewis and Clark Community College welcomes international students on F-1 or M-1 visas. We issue Form I-20 after all requirements are met. Applicants are encouraged to apply early, as processing can take some time.

Application Process and Requirements

  • Application - Apply online
  • Transcripts - Please provide the Enrollment Center with all high school and college transcripts from each academic institution previously attended. All international transcripts must be translated into English, and international transcripts should be evaluated by a 3rd party evaluation service. World Education Services (WES) or InCred (preferred) are two recommended options.
  • Transfer Students - Please complete the Transfer in Form. If transferring from another US institution, complete the Transfer In Form, provide your current I-20, and show good status/academic standing.

Proof of English Proficiency

English Proficiency - Submit official results of your TOEFL (Test of English as a Foreign Language) or Duolingo.
  • TOEFL Requirements - A minimum score of 500 (paper-based), 173 (computer-based), 61 (internet-based).
  • Duolingo - A minimum score of 90 or above.

Financial Requirements

Supply a statement of ability to pay the college's foreign student tuition rate and living expenses. The estimated cost for both tuition and living expenses is $20,000 per year. This statement should come from a family member or sponsor with documentation from a financial institution. Documentation may include stamped bank statements, a sponsor affidavit, etc., showing sufficient funds.

International Date Sheet

Complete the following data sheet

Additional Documentation

  • Provide our office with a copy of your passport identification page.
  • Pay SEVIS I-901 fee ($350, paid after I-20 is issued)

Deadlines and Processing

Provide all requested documents at least 90 days before the beginning of the requested semester to allow time for I-20 issuance and visa processing.

Please refer to our academic calendar for important dates and more information.

Admitted Students

Once approved, we'll email your I-20. You should then pay the SEVIS fee, apply for an F-1 visa, and prepare for arrival.

Maintain at least twelve (12) credit hours/semester, primarily on the Godfrey campus (limited online classes allowed). Always check with the Principal Designated School Official (PDSO) prior to dropping below full-time (FT). Admitted students must have a minimum of nine (9) in-person credits of the required twelve (12) credit hours/semester to maintain legal status.

After receiving the I-20, visit educationusa.state.gov or travel.state.gov for visa info.

L&C does not have the resources to help students find housing, nor do we have dormitory facilities. We strongly recommend that all international students have a sponsor or mentor within the college district to provide cultural and social support while living in the area.

Students Transferring Out

If you wish to transfer your SEVIS record (I-20) to another U.S. institution, please complete the Transfer Out Form and submit it to your Principal Designated School Official (PDSO) along with a copy of your acceptance letter from the new school.
