Sociology is the scientific study of society, social behavior, and human interactions. It explores how individuals and groups relate to one another and how social structures, institutions, and cultures shape our everyday lives. Our program seeks to provide students with a strong foundation in sociology and develop valuable skills like critical thinking, research and data analysis, cultural competence, and social awareness that can be applied in various academic and professional settings.
Course offerings include SOCI 131 - Introduction to Sociology, in which students are introduced to the rules, interactions, and cultural patterns that organize everyday life. We also offer numerous upper-level electives, in which students can explore in-depth social topics like marriage and family, environmental sociology, race and ethnicity, sex and gender, and social problems.
Sociology classes offered include:
- SOCI 131 - Introduction to Sociology
- SOCI 132 - Social Problems
- SOCI 134 - Introduction to Environmental Sociology
- SOCI 150 - Racial and Ethnic Relations
