GODFREY –Lewis and Clark Community College will host “I Have a Dream,” From Vision to Success, A Celebration of Martin Luther King Jr., Wednesday, Feb. 4, starting at 12:30 p.m. in The Commons.

The free, public event will honor the life, legacy, and vision of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., featuring a keynote address from Alton Mayor David Goins, along with a student keynote from Nicc Edwards, an LC student and 6-year veteran of the United States Marine Corps.

Goins, a proud Alton native, Alton High School graduate and former member of the Alton Police Department, was elected in 2021 as Alton’s first African American mayor.

Edwards was the founding president of the college’s chapter of the Future Business Leaders of America (FBLA) from August 2023 to August 2025. He currently works as a Promotions and Entertainment Supervisor at Horseshoe STL in the Marketing department, his field of study.

Attendees will also hear excerpts from Dr. King’s speeches, read by Lewis and Clark students, highlighting the continued relevance of his words and ideals.

Live entertainment will be provided by guest musicians Jared Hennings and Ralph Monroe. Heavy appetizers will be provided by Nicky G’s, allowing guests to enjoy food and fellowship during the event.
