ASL Classes Now Enrolling for Fall 2026

Ever wanted to speak a new language? Learn American Sign Language (ASL) with Lewis and Clark this fall semester!

Whether you're interested in communicating with deaf individuals, expanding your career skills, or exploring a new culture, Lewis and Clark's ASL courses provide an engaging introduction to one of the nation's most widely used languages.

Beginning and continuing ASL students can choose from two courses offered on the Godfrey Campus.

SIGN-135-01 introduces students to approximately 300 ASL vocabulary items and certain grammatical features, as well as fingerspelling. The course is designed for students interested in developing beginning conversational skills for interaction with deaf individuals. An explanation of certain cultural aspects of ASL will also be provided. (3:30-4:45 p.m., TU/TH, Godfrey Campus).

SIGN 136-60 continues where SIGN 135 left off, further developing students' understanding of ASL and conversational skills, with the progressive development of ASL vocabulary. This course adds approximately 300 signs to the student's vocabulary and provides practice in the grammatical features of ASL. Students will also continue development of receptive and expressive skills for fingerspelled words. (5-6:15 p.m., TU/TH, Godfrey Campus).

Classes begin Aug. 25.
