GODFREY – Godfrey officials awarded the Good Neighbors Award to the Lewis and Clark Community College (L&C) Building Futures YouthBuild program at Tuesday’s Finance Committee meeting.
Trustee Sarah Woodman proudly presented the award for the program's contribution to the Max Heinz Memorial Dog Park in Glazebrook Park. 11 students in the program helped design and build obstacles for the recently opened dog park.
Building Futures YouthBuild program serves “out of school” youth ages 16 to 24, and is designed to help these students earn their Illinois High School Diploma, formerly the General Educational Development (GED), credentials while gaining real-world experience and developing construction and leadership skills.
Each student worked on an individual obstacle, including design, material requirements, construction, and installation. Woodman said some of the obstacles have already been installed in the large section of the dog park, with the remaining obstacles to be installed in the smaller portion of the dog park by Thanksgiving.
