GODFREY – Lewis and Clark Community College is inviting the entire community to campus for fun under the sun at its annual Summerfest from 4 to 7 p.m., Thursday, July 11.

This year’s event will be held in the Hatheway back lot on the college’s Godfrey Campus.

Summerfest is free to attend and will include food trucks, inflatables, a petting zoo, face painting, a climbing wall, vendors, campus and community resources, L&C giveaways and more.

Look for L&C’s mascot, Blazer the Newfie, throughout the event for a fun photo opportunity.

“We are back and bigger than ever at a different location on campus, which allows for opportunities we did not have before,” said Recruiter Daniel Nosce, who is coordinating the event. “Bring the family out for a fun community-oriented event aimed at participants of all ages.”

Anyone interested in the college’s educational offerings can get information on everything from college-level transfer programs and short-term degrees and certificates to Illinois High School Diploma preparation, personal enrichment (just for fun) courses, College for Kids, workforce and safety training and more (https://www.lc.edu/academic-programs/index.html).

More than 20 local non-profit organizations will also have informational tables at the event.

Following Summerfest, guests are invited to stay on campus for the Alton Muny Band Children’s Concert, which begins at 7 p.m. in the same location.

“We at L&C are overjoyed at the tremendous amount of interest in Summerfest,” Nosce said. “From attendees to vendors to the participation of the Alton Municipal Band, we look forward to seeing our surrounding communities celebrated.”

Campus and community engagement are a key focus of the college’s strategic plan (https://www.lc.edu/college-information/mission-vision-and-values/strategic-plan.html).

Last year’s event drew more than 1,000 community members to campus. Nosce hopes to top that this year.
