GODFREY – The Always Late TV Movie Awards is back!

Taking place March 22-23, 2025, at the Hatheway Cultural Center at Lewis and Clark Community College, this annual celebration and film festival honors creativity, innovation, and excellence in independent filmmaking.

Filmmakers are flying in from around the world, including as far as Australia, to attend the event, which is free and open to the public.

“From gripping dramas to laugh-out-loud comedies and spine-chilling scary movies, the festival promises a weekend packed with cinematic brilliance—perfect for filmmakers and movie enthusiasts alike,” said Always Late TV Founder and L&C alumnus Kevin Edwards.

Event highlights will include:
  • Screenings: Dive into a diverse lineup of independent films from local and global filmmakers, including shorts, features, documentaries, and music videos. Screenings run Saturday from 8 a.m. – 6:30 p.m. and 8:30-10:30 p.m.
  • Improv Comedy Shows: Get ready to laugh with two hilarious improv shows. On Saturday at 7 p.m., two teams of comics will compete in a fast-paced showdown. On Sunday at 4 p.m., enjoy a “Whose Line Is It Anyway?”-style face-off featuring Laura Hall, renowned musician from “Whose Line Is It Anyway?” Both shows will take suggestions from the audience, making each performance unique and interactive.
  • Red Carpet & Awards Ceremony: Celebrate the best in independent cinema on Sunday evening. The red carpet starts at 5:30 p.m., followed by an awards presentation at 7 p.m. The event will be hosted by award-winning actress, model, and improv comic Caterina Clayton, alongside John Lehr, known for his work in “Geico Cavemen,” “Friends,” “10 Items or Less,” and Hulu's “Quick Draw.” Special guest presenter Steve Ewing, frontman of The Urge and owner of Steve’s Hot Dogs, will also take the stage.
Featured Films to Watch:
  • “Breasts Not Required:” A groundbreaking documentary by Seth Thompson and Hannah Sullivan exploring personal stories of eight women post-mastectomy, challenging societal norms and shedding light on systemic health issues.
  • “Luki & the Lights:” An animated story of resilience by Toby Cochran following a robot navigating life with an ALS diagnosis, highlighting the power of perseverance and hope. The filmmakers behind this heartwarming tale bring a wealth of experience, having worked on “Ratatouille,” “Monsters University,” “Cars,” “Shrek,” and “Antz.”
  • “Lemonade Battle:” Directed by 13-year-old Zahra Sophia Layland, this charming comedy follows a group of ambitious young entrepreneurs who take pride in their fresh-squeezed lemonade and meticulously decorated stand. When a competitor claims their prime location, the kids devise a clever plan for revenge. This delightful film showcases youthful ambition and creativity.
  • “Dark at the Top of the Stairs:” Directed by Alton, Illinois locals Wyatt Weed and Gayle Gallagher, this thrilling feature follows a man who, after the death of his twin brother, returns to the family house he has inherited. There, he confronts his past, his personal demons, and a ghost. Nominated for multiple awards including Best Feature Film, this local production is in the running for the festival’s biggest prize for feature filmmakers.
